KEEPING IT SECRET

A SAMPLE OF DIALOGUE

“It smells divine in here. All this for me aunt Ruth?”

“I thought you might enjoy my old recipes. I made your favourite biscuits and cake. Help yourself Selena.”

“These are delicious. Thank you aunty. I’ve missed you so much..”

“I missed you too, poppet!”

“Mum is over the moon now that you’re living nearby. I don’t think I’ve seen her this happy in years.”

Oh, I know! She’s been fussing over me like we're children all over again. Every time I see her, she’s either bringing me something for the house or making sure I’m settling in properly."

“That’s Mum! She was worried about you living so far away on your own.”

“I like having her close too. We’ve fallen back into our old rhythm—talking every day, sharing recipes, even going for walks together. It’s comforting.”

"I bet! Mum told me it's like when we were girls, except now we talk about aching joints instead of new dresses."

“She still insists on dressing up to pop over to the shops. You never know who you’ll run into.” she says.

“And she’s right! Last week she dragged me to the market and within five minutes, we ran into three old friends from high school. I had no idea I'd see so many familiar faces.”

"That’s the beauty of this small town. People never really leave Chester. Not for long, anyway.”

"I didn’t realize how much I missed it here until I came back.

“Well, we’re not letting you run off again!”

“Don’t worry, poppet. Another biscuit?”

“Mm. Yes please. But can I take off my jacket first? It’s really warm in here.”

“I put on the heating. It’s so cold out.”

“It always is in winter.”

“I know. This is really one of the coldest months. I hate January, don’t you?”

“Absolutely hate it! I can’t wait for spring.”
