What do you really know about Malta?

When people mention Malta, they normally associate the Island with the sun, wild night life, rocky beaches, pubs, bars and restaurants.

People who have visited the Island will refer to it as over crowded. And a few will tell you about our Island's rich history and what shaped the Island.

In my blog, I will cover facts about Malta from more than one local's point of view including mine.

What visitors won't tell you before you travel to  Malta is how expensive it is to live here, and how much it has changed over the years.

Nobody wants to admit that corruption is rife and for a segment of the population, Malta is a hell hole to live in.

Malta is undoubtedly the most densely populated country in Europe.

I have see many changes in Malta since my childhood and some things improved, others never changed.

Back in the 1970's, Malta was an unspoilt Island in the Mediterranean. It was a gem.

In 2004 Malta joined the European Union. Since then, the Island chaged drastically. Now in 2025, Malta is multicultural. Most of its former beauty is gone forever. Developers ruined the Island. Cranes dominate the landscape of popular areas and ugly buildings have replaced beautiful old houses.

Drugs are easy to get hold of. Cannabis is legal now, but synthetic drugs and cocaine are not.

So why are so many people in Malta taking illegal drugs?

The best reply I got was "Malta is a party Island. Drugs play a huge role in partying."

Since when???

And where does it stop?

How many more innocent people must die for change to come into effect?

Many drug users drive while on drugs and alcohol.

Are they all stopped and breathalized? Of course not.

Shameful doesn't begin to cover what I think about this sorry situation.

And because I cannot partake in the comment section of a certain newspaper for speaking the truth, I refuse to be censored for giving my honest opinion.

 These are my questions:

Why aren't the police arresting the dealers?

And what is the Maltese government doing about the problem?
